History The Australian Racing Christian Chaplaincy (ARCC) was originally established in 1996 under the name of the Anglican Racing Industry Ministry Committee. It was the vision of Anglican minister Rev Paul Bayliss, who brought together a group of people with links to the thoroughbred horse racing industry who were keen to explore the possibility of setting up a gospel-based Christian ministry focused particularly on the needs of those working in stables – track riders, jockeys, stable hands and trainers. ARCC Inc. is now an interdenominational Christian group incorporated in NSW. It has links to the Race Track Chaplaincy of America, an organisation in the United States with over 80 chaplains serving over 130 racetracks. The founder of this ministry, Salty Roberts, is an Honorary Executive Member of the ARCC Committee. Aims
We recognise that working within the horseracing industry are people with many needs and issues, ranging from substance abuse and gambling problems, to loneliness and financial hardship. Above all, we believe that the saving message embodied in the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ can bring new life and hope to everyone. The ARCC Vision and Mission is to bring the gospel message of hope and renewal in Jesus Christ and the ministry resources, support and social services of the Christian Church to promote the well-being and spiritual development of people working within Australia’s thoroughbred racing industry. We aim to do this through establishing a network of Christian chaplains at racetracks, initially in Sydney, but eventually extending this ministry to regional NSW and other states. We hope that these gifted and godly individuals will work closely with racing clubs, management and individuals to minister to the particular needs of those in the industry. Current progress ARCC Inc has been able to raise sufficient funds to begin a full-time chaplaincy ministry to the Sydney racing fraternity. We are now seeking to raise further funds to enable this ministry to continue and to grow. ARCC operates with the goodwill and support of Racing NSW, Australian Jockey Club and Sydney Turf Club and the Australian Racing Board. However, chaplaincy services are provided free of charge to the clubs and to the industry. We are seeking the financial support of those who appreciate the value of this chaplaincy ministry in order to see it develop.
